my role model...
Way back when I was a kid, I fancied two superheroes. One was Spiderman and the other, quite obviously (Well! Not so obvious for my friends though!) was Aamir Khan.Being a heterochromian (having eyes of different colors), then I always thought I was a mutant. I always expected some kind of a miracle to happen that would permanently transform me into a very powerful creature never seen before. Thus I became a big fan of Spiderman. Well now I think, I am a mutant, I think very differently ;)
Coming to Aamir Khan, well I think it all started with “Jo jeeta wohi sikander”. That fussy, messy school kid stole the hearts of thousands of children. It wasn’t just a ‘Touch n go’, because I grew up watching his movies. With the kind of roles he played in Sarfarosh, Rang de Basanti n other movies, the Indian youth (me included) started idealizing him. I had more reasons to idealize him. I have always had two aims in life, just two:
To do something great for my country which would be on par with the contributions of our freedom fighters, social workers (or patriots in general).
To rule the film industry as an actor.
That was the period when I always griped over my height because I thought it was a necessity to be a 6 footer to become a movie star (u people just don’t know what all I did to grow taller!). But it was this little chap, jus 5 feet 7, who kept my spirits high by ruling Bollywood (Wow! I am taller than this dude, so I do stand a chance!!!).
But what has happened to him these days. He joined the Narmada Bachao Aandolan and protested against the Supreme court’s decision n then he posed in front of the press like a true patriot, and addressed them for hours in a five star hotel! Did he really feel for the people or was this only for publicity? If he really did feel for the people, why did he have to wait till he was 40! Our country has abundance of adversities!
Did “Rang de…” really inspire him that much? Or was it because, till then he never got “free” air tickets n stay at a star hotel for protesting against someone!
I pity myself for becoming his fan now! The same Aamir Khan who shouted “Saala, jis thali mein khata hai usi mein ched karta hai!” at ‘Mirchi Seth’ in “Sarfarosh”, neither uttered a single word against the terrorists nor tried to do anything for the Kashmiri pandits who are still treated like refugees in their own country! These movies never inspired him to do anything for those who lost their everything because of the bomb blasts or the Tsunami.
Is this the same Aamir Khan who once received a pat on his back from Atalji (when Aamir won a national award for “Sarfarosh”) and of course the advice “Desh ko banane aur bachane ki zimmedari jitna netaon ka hai, utna abhinetaon ka bhi hai”!
Hypocrisy!……… for publicity!!!
Should I still consider him as my role model?
